5 Steps to Creating Your Perfect Morning Routine
Disclaimer: I do not have a perfect morning routine. In fact, I do not have any type of morning routine for myself at this time. I am not an expert, merely a mom looking to perfect her own morning routine! Thanks for joining me in this venture.

Imagine waking up well rested, refreshed, and completely ready to take on the day.
Pipe dream, isn’t it?
What if it’s not?
Here are five things I’m using and implementing in 2023 to have the smoothest, best morning routine yet.
prep AS MUCH AS YOU CAN the night before
In my five years of being a parent, I have found one of the best things I can do for myself is prepare as many things ahead as I can the night before. Picking out what to wear, packing lunches, and doing a few minutes of tidying up can make a huge difference.
This way, when you wake up ahead of your kids you have that time to actually take care of you before you start the day.
2. Invest in the things that get you excited to wake up in the morning
I wake up excited to get up and get started, because I look forward to that first cup of coffee in the morning. This has always held pretty true because I love coffee, but just a few years ago we purchased this espresso machine and it has been the highlight of my morning ever since!
Not into coffee? That’s okay too! Vary your breakfasts each day so you’re excited to wake up and eat, or maybe try some new makeup products that get you ready to dart of bed. Whatever it is, invest in something that will help motivate you to get up early.
3. Make a list of tasks you’d like to get done.
Seems like an obvious step, but if you don’t know what you want to get done, then why get up? Also making a list of things you would like to reward yourself with after you complete your tasks can help motivate you to get the jobs done!
4. Use a tracker or planner to block out your morning routine.
Are you protecting your morning routine time? Make sure you create space for your morning routine by scheduling it just like you would an appointment or event;
As women, especially as moms, it can be easy to neglect our time for other things that we deem “more important.” But how can we take care of those other things when we don’t take care of ourselves? I’m guilty of this one a lot, and I’m still working to put my self care first so that I’m better equipped to serve my family everyday.
I am a huge fan of planning and trackers, even if you don’t ever look back at it ever again—writing down your routines in a central place with your regular calendar can help you get a better idea of how much time you really need.
5. Use trial and error; your morning routine is written in pencil, not stone.
For me personally, this concept is the hardest part. I just want it to be right straightaway. But the reality is, you will probably plan your ideal routine, go to test it out, and after a couple days you realize that you need to get up earlier than you thought. Or maybe your journaling time doesn’t take as long as you thought and you can add in another task. Just be gentle with yourself and remember that it’s your morning routine, so make it work for you!
