Hearing God’s Silence
Hello there! My name is Emma, welcome to Mommy and Ma...
Oh wait, you've been here before? I guess it's just been awhile.
PROBABLY because I haven't bothered to post in a month.
Scratch that, three months.
SHEESH Emma, get your llamas in line.
*now we return to our scheduled mediocre programming*
Lately, I've been thinking about what I am doing with my life. Somewhere between changing diapers, running to doctor's appointments, and eating vegan lasagna, I usually have this existentialistic thought once every two hours while carefully holding my super-light-sleeper-almost-one-year-old napping on my lap:
What the bleep am I doing, God?
And no, I do not use a swear word there, I legitimately think the word 'bleep,' because I am a good Christian woman.
I continually pray throughout my day each day,
Lord, what would you have me do? Is this what I am supposed to be doing? Just say the word and I'll quit my job. I'll stop doing my business. I'll solely blog and make videos. I will move to Iceland and become a...whatever Icelandic people are. What should I do? Is this right? I just want to please You.
Silence.
But God, I don't want to do the wrong thing. Is this against your will?
Crickets.
Well aight then. That's cool. I didn't want You to answer anyway.
Yes, you guys. This is literally how I pray to the Lord.
If you follow me on social media, which if you're reading this you probably do, then you know I recently became a Younique Presenter. Younique is a natural cosmetics and skincare company that aims to uplift, validate, and empower women. They have also founded the Younique Foundation, which provides a retreat and rehabilitation for sexually abused and exploited women.
I love everything about this company; the products, the mission, the people, the community. And I joined for a myriad of reasons after carefully researching and praying it over. Waiting for God to open the heavens and bless me with His, well done girl, you rock.
But here’s the thing.
If there’s one thing I’ve learned about the Lord in my time of being a Christ follower, it’s that He often answers your prayers with silence.
Well, at least, mine anyway.
He didn’t create us in order to have little play things to micromanage. He doesn’t make our decisions for us, and just like any good Father, He lets us walk in the consequences of our actions.
At the end of each day, I try to ask myself...
Did what I do today help someone else?
Did I lift someone up today?
Did I love to the point that it was sacrificial?
If the answer to any one of the questions is a no, then I reevaluate what I’m doing. Why I’m doing it.
So let me encourage you today, friend. Silence from God doesn’t mean He has given up on you. He’s not ignoring you.
He loves you, and there are many good works He has prepared for you to walk into. There’s not always one ‘right’ choice. He longs to give you your heart’s desires.
So keep close to Him, walk in His word, and hear His voice—even when it’s silent.
Then go for it.
“And those He predestined, He also called; and those He called, He also justified; and those He justified, He also glorified.”
